“In the absence of information about Value, of course, the system optimizes for other things. Why should this surprise anyone?” – @joshuajames
How can we improve our decision-making frameworks – with a focus more on the value side of the equation?
Prioritization is a common area of struggle. Economics, which is the study of scarcity, can help with this. But it goes beyond just deciding what to do or in what order to do it. We often lack adequate means to make sensible trade-off decisions all throughout the systems we are working in.
It’s also not about being “right”. Instead, it’s more about being less stupid. Even a small improvement in our understanding of value and urgency can help us focus our precious efforts better and maybe even discover the dead ends and losing bets more quickly.
