AI-Assisted Coding: Enhancing Development or Increasing Technical Debt?

March 12 All day

Agile Tech Talk on AI-assisted Coding with Mark Levinson

Online Session • Wednesday, March 12 at 11:00 AM ET

GitHub claims that Copilot leads to 55% faster coding, 46% more code written, and a $1.5 trillion boost to GDP. Developers report increased productivity and satisfaction, with 75% feeling more fulfilled. But what are we missing?

While Large Language Models (LLMs) like GitHub Copilot promise faster coding and increased productivity, more code doesn’t always mean better code. This talk explores the risks of LLM-generated technical debt, defects, and unintended consequences. We’ll examine key questions about how these models are trained, their resource consumption, and how to use them wisely to improve software quality without compromising long-term stability.

Join us to explore the reality behind the numbers and the future of AI-assisted coding.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify how and when LLM tools can be effectively leveraged.
  • Understand the effects of LLM-generated code on software quality and maintainability.
  • Recognize why many current approaches to using LLMs in development optimize the wrong metrics.
