Know Python? See AI as attractive? Then learn Mojo

If you know the Python programming language, there’s a good chance you also know there is a rich collection of libraries and tools related to Machine Learning commonly used to apply Python to AI endeavors. Python is known to be simple to learn, with uncomplicated syntax yet includes powerful constructs. But it’s slow.

The Mojo programming language built by Chris Lattner of Modular has an objective of giving Python the speed of C++ and the safety of Rust while also retaining the ability to use the AI-related libraries. Chris wrote LLVM and SWIFT’s compile time optimizations. That is what should make Mojo of interest to Pythonistas.

I coach people who solve problems with code (yes, both interpretations). They also school me. We have fun doing it all. Since retiring last month, I have hosted coding-related events where healthy ways of working and coding together as one “team” are the primary focus, while also having fun.

Some examples of this work and thinking include:

Code Craft Saturdays and Sundays – Every month, on the 2nd weekend, we gather from across the planet to have fun learning and coding together with one another and from one another.

Mob Retreat – a workshop format for learning Mob Programming that Dimitry Polivaev originated and we co-created.

Global Liquid Mob – It is possible to construct a globe-spanning mob that maintains the fluid nature of single-piece work throughout multiple continuous 24-hour cycles by changing the makeup of the mob throughout each day in a structured way, generally “flowing” east-to-west in a non-stop and sustainable fashion.
