Submission Guidelines
Submit all articles via email to the editor in any standard word processing file format.
Because we want to hear from you, we don’t make our submission process too difficult or too regimented. We don’t require specific margins, fonts, or section formatting. We basically just want an outline or rough draft, a final draft, and then for you to check the article once more after copyediting and proofreading for any show-stopping errors we may have inadvertently introduced.
An outline allows the editors to see the basic content of the article, decide if it will fit in a given issue, and offer suggestions on how to strengthen the article. The outline is optional. If you’d like to run an idea by us without going to the trouble of pre-writing the article, an outline is a good idea. An outline is basically a one to two sentence description of each point and then a list of the references/links you’re going to use. You might want to copy and paste quotes from those links or paraphrase the information you want to keep in mind from the references.
You may want to send a rough draft in lieu of an outline. That’s fine, too. If your article is accepted, we’ll work together from rough draft to final draft in order to prepare the article for publication.
As far as length goes, don’t worry too much about it. We have many articles that run in the 750 – 1200 word range, but also have a few more lengthy articles for more in-depth topics. Usually, we’re able to estimate a good word count in the outline/rough draft state. Our editors are very skilled at focusing articles and fitting them into the space allotted. We’ll work with you to get your article to size.
All content needs to be emailed to the editor in by final draft deadline date for that issue. A list of these deadline dates can be found under Publication Dates and Deadlines.
We will also need a brief bio (one paragraph will do) and a head shot that isn’t copyrighted.
